LABOUR MARKET

By January 1, 2006 the number of constant population of the region made 1,861,000 people, where 1,418,800 are urban and 442,200 are rural.

62% of the total population is workable persons, 14% – younger than workable age and 24% – older than workable age.

The average age of Zaporizhzhya region population is 40.2 years old (urban – 39.9, rural – 40.9). There are 53 women, 29 youth people (at the age of 15-35 years old) for each 100 workers of enterprises, organizations.

In 2005 regional labour market was characterized by the decreasing of the fi ring rate, decreasing of registered workless, increasing of demand for workers and increasing of employment.

Also the labour market was characterized by the decrease of labour fl uidity index. For different reasons 131,200 persons retired, among them 4,500 persons retired for staff reduction. Besides, 120,000 persons were placed in a job at other enterprises and organizations, the others decided resettlement problems by themselves or turned to the employment service.

During 2005, with the help of the regional employment service, 44,300 persons were placed in a job, 7,600 – visited refresher courses, 16,100 – participated in a public work.

In the region 47,000 new workplaces were created, 16,600 persons were engaged by juridical persons and 30,000 – by employers.

The largest number of new workplaces was created in such branches as: in industry were employed 4,200 people, in wholesale and retail trade, transport trade and repair services – 4,100 people, in agriculture, forest area, and hunting – 3,100.

The average monthly salary of a permanent employer in 2005 comparing with 2004 increased on 28.3% and composed 860.32 UAH.

The complex of measures concerning employment sphere improvement has yielded positive results. In the region the number of vacant workplaces has grown from 5,800 (by January 1, 2005) to 6,800 (by January 1, 2006). Enterprises of Zaporizhzhya, Berdyans'k, Melitipol suggest over 80% of vacant workplaces. Builders, turners, mechanic-repairmen of machines and equipments are much in demand.

By the results of 2005 the number of unworkable persons has decreased on 11,200 and composed 60100 persons.
